Walter and Stella are survived by their son Alan (Elaine), daughter Astrid/Dorothy Ahlgren and grandson Ross Franklin.
Walter and Stella were married in 1949 in Longlac, Northwestern Ontario. They moved to Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) in 1957 and ultimately to Winnipeg in 1967 where they remained until their passing.
Stella began her secretarial career in the Canadian Army during 1944/45 and after her discharge moved to Longlac. After moving to Port Arthur, Stella worked at the YM/YWCA and then continued her career in Winnipeg at Vincent Massey Collegiate, Acadia Junior High, the Fort Garry School Board and Canada Fisheries until her retirement.
Walter worked on the tugboats hauling logs on Long Lake until he accepted a position at Powell Equipment, the local Caterpillar dealer in Port Arthur. The career move precipitated the transfer from Longlac, and then to Winnipeg. Walter worked for Powell until his retirement.
Walter and Stella enjoyed their travels with friends and family, including numerous ocean cruises. When at home, Stella enjoyed sewing, engaged in many bridge games with her friends, and could often be seen tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Walter enjoyed the time in his workshop where he was adept at lathework, making children’s toys and a masterful loom.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Walter and Stella’s many friends for their support over the past several years. Thank you to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Cornish 2 at the Misericordia Health Centre and Victoria General Hospital for the care and compassion extended to Walter and Stella, as well as their son.
