Urmila Kumari Kapoor (nee Kataria)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Urmila Kumari Kapoor, with family by her side, on December 19th, 2025 at the age of 70. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Balbir Kapoor, her son Rajinder, and her daughter Jyoti. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Pardeep, brother Vijay, and her parents.

Urmila was born and raised in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, and spent most of her life in Winnipeg after marrying Balbir in 1975. She was a deeply devoted mother of three who worked very hard all her life. She was a teacher in India, a sewing machine operator for roughly 30 years in Winnipeg, and had other occupations until retirement. She was incredibly kind and compassionate, quick to forgive, and was known to put others ahead of herself. She was also known for her gorgeous smile. She had many creative hobbies and was very talented – she spent a lot of time gardening, sewing, crocheting/knitting, beading, painting – she did it all. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and lovingly sharing her creations with them.

A Funeral Service for Urmila will be held on Monday, January 5th, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A reception will take place off-site the same day (details to be provided at the funeral).
