Val had many careers throughout her life. She became a Certified Dental Assistant in the 70’s, a job she enjoyed, which took her to Melville, Yorkton and Estevan Saskatchewan. In the early 1980’s she moved to Portage la Prairie, where she worked as a receptionist at a Truss Factory/Company. Then in the later ‘80’s she moved to Winnipeg, where she went back to school and became a Legal Secretary. That job didn’t suit her liking, so she moved on to a Call Centre where she became ‘Mom’ to many of her co-workers, who loved her dearly. COVID happened, and Val retired not because she wanted to but due to circumstances beyond her control.
Val was predeceased by her parents, Norma Weger (nee Musselman) in March, 1984, and Rudy Weger in December, 1998.
She is survived by her brother Tim of Nanaimo, BC, her brother Harvey of Salt Coates Saskatchewan, her sister Esther of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, and youngest brother David of Estevan Saskatchewan. Not having any children of her own, she loved her nephews, Stephen (Teresa) and Scott (Harvey’s boys), Loyal (Tim’s son), Tyler, Tanner, and Dustin (Dave’s sons) as well as step-niece Skylar, and step-nephews Bronson and Austin. She also leaves to mourn her passing, Harvey’s 3 granddaughters – Hailey, Alexis and Micayla.
She still has two aunts living - her mother’s sisters, Erma Cornish (Meadow Lake Sask.), and Gladys Huber (Hinton Alta) as well as Aunt Beth Weger – Reinhart’s wife - (Regina Sask), and her Dad’s brother, Uncle Awald Weger (Moose Jaw Sask) and his wife Bernie. Many, (too many to name) cousins also mourn her passing.
Val had several hobbies including, cooking/baking, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting and sewing. Her hands needed to be busy at something, and many of her friends and family were the recipients of her labours of love.
A grave-side service will be held at a date to be determined in summer of 2023. Her remains will be buried with her parents at Cromar Cemetary in Woodley Saskatchewan. Many thanks to Thomson Funeral Home of Winnipeg, Manitoba for taking care of her final arrangements.
