May 23rd, 1924 Hong Kong, China
August 27th, 2014 Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Mom (Paw Paw and Mama), beloved wife of Yuen Lum Chan of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th, 2014 at the age of 90 years.
Wai Fong grew up in Hong Kong, China. At the end of World War II; after spending over 3 years under the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, met and fell in love with Dad and endeared a 66 years of marriage with profound love and care for each other. Mom and Dad have five wonderful children, Tony, Thomas, Willie, Korcina and Christina. They also helped care for four of our cousins so the house was always filled with love and festivities.
Mom was the most caring and loving person you would ever known; yet determined and persistent with tremendous stamina, in what she wanted and stood for. It was with these characters that allowed the five of us (later 9 of us) sharing one wooden rocking horse; the only toy in the house, possible. Her love and caring nature continued to shine through the moments spent with her grandchildren and great grandchild. Mom loves nature and the beauty of flowers and blossoming trees. She loved to knit and with great skills. She knitted all of our socks and sweaters when we were growing up. If there was a style or pattern you liked, all she needed was a visual of it and in a very short time, she would have it knitted to the finest details. We all continued to be blessed with her artistic talents and dexterity with these gifts well into her eighty's.
In 1979, Mom and Dad decided to emigrate to Canada shortly after Dad's retirement from their jewelry business. They traveled to various parts of the world before settling into Winnipeg, to be with their sons Thomas and Willie. Soon, the rest of their children came to call Canada their home also. Mom and Dad received the blessings of our Lord and became dedicated Christians fifteen years ago; they were baptized in July 2014.
Beside her loving husband Yuen Lum, Mom is remembered with love by her loving children: Tony (Pollinna) of Hong Kong/Vancouver, Thomas of Winnipeg, Willie of Calgary, Korcina (Jeff) of Hong Kong and Christina of Vancouver. Grandchildren: Natalie Chan of Vancouver, Carine Chan of Calgary, Julia Chan of Toronto, Jeremy Lai of Winnipeg, Justin Lai of Toronto, Joshua Dib (Azra) of Winnipeg, and great granddaughter Natasha Dib of Winnipeg. She is also survived by numerous cousins.
A celebration of Mom's life (Paw Paw and Mama), will be held at Thomson ‘In the Park’ Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Winnipeg Manitoba, on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
Condolences may be forwarded through www.thomsoninthepark.com. As per Mom and Dad's wishes, the obituary will not be printed in the newspaper.
