

He attended Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba where he was a founding member of Phi Kappa Pi fraternity.
After leaving University Bill joined Dominion Textile Co. Ltd. in 1934. When WWII broke out he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as XO aboard HMCS Kokanee and had a brief command aboard HMCS Hespler prior to his discharge. He redlined the reserve as XO of HMCS Chippewa during the flood of 1950. While living in Montreal he served as Commanding Officer of the UNTD at the University of McGill retiring as Lt. Commander in the late 1942.
He married Mary Armstrong December 28, 1940. Their daughter Marilynn Glenn was born in 1942.
After returning to Winnipeg in 1958 Bill joined the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg and served as President in 1963. Bill also served as Treasurer of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, National President of the Navy League of Canada, a member of the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club. In 1968 he was on the executive of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
In 1975 Mary and Bill retired in Charleswood where they enjoyed gardening and the many Labradors and Golden Retrievers they had.
Bill was always very proud of his grandsons Glenn/Donna and Trevor/Dian and his four Great Grandchildren Erin, Sara, Brockie and Talya-Lynn.
He was a great Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
A Memorial service will take place on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
