Zorawar Singh Bharaj

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Sardar Zorawar Singh Bharaj. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, elder brother, uncle and revered member of his community in Winnipeg. He passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at the age of 87 years.

Zorawar was predeceased by his parents Hari Singh Bharaj (father), Harnam Kaur Bharaj (mother), Rattan Kaur (sister), Rattan Singh (brother), Manjit Kaur (sister-in-law), Devinder Singh (brother).

He is survived by his wife Jagdish Kaur; his sons: Gurdeep Singh (Inderjeet Kaur), Manmohan Singh; grandchildren: Ikjyot Kaur, Divjyot Singh; his brother Bhupinder Singh; along with his niece and nephews: Hardeep Singh, Satnam Singh, Vikramjit Singh, Jatinder Singh, Ameet Kaur, Surdeep Singh, Gurjot Singh.

Zorawar Singh was born in Dadu, Sindh Province, British India on December 26, 1937.

After his birth, his family moved to Karachi for a few years before relocating to Daroli, Punjab in 1946. The family eventually moved to New Delhi in 1950.

Zorawar studied architecture in Rajasthan and chose to become a draftsman in his early years, before his marriage to his wife Jagdish Kaur in 1960. In 1961, he left for England by steamship, with his wife following him later. They resided in city of Luton with his family and close family members until 1968, when they moved to Winnipeg, Canada.

He had a genuine passion for swimming and travelling, whether by bicycle or by car all across Canada, parts of the US and India. He was sincere, honest, hardworking; respected everyone and compassionate to everyone. He spent the remainder of his life in Winnipeg, with the occasional trips back home to India to visit family & friends.

His greatest pride and joy were his family and grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 14, 2025, at 10:00am CDT at Thomson "In The Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, MB, R3T-5Y4. Please join us for Bhog and Antim Ardaas after the funeral, at 12:30pm, at Gurdwara Nanaksar, 255 St David Road, St. Vital, Winnipeg.
