Andre Lanzaro, 84, of Winston Salem, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026. He was born on December 15, 1941, to the late John and Lydia Lanzaro in Queens, NY. Andre was the loving husband of Muna Lanzaro.
A proud graduate of Berkeley with a doctorate in astrophysics, he helped to develop the technology that would put man on the moon, and he spent the remainder of his career teaching the next generation of physicists. Beyond his work, Andre was a formidable chess player and a witty conversationalist. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of good food, beautiful scenery, and great company. Andre’s wisdom, kindness, and laughter live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Lanzaro and his sister, Connie Lanzaro.
Andre is survived by his wife Muna Lanzaro and two daughters, Shirene and Joy Lanzaro.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Forsyth Memorial Service, 3815 Yadkinville Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27106. A subsequent celebration of his life will take place at 1 pm at 101 Cedarwood Creek Ct, Winston Salem, NC 27104.
