Sisters were Leota Hawks, Della Bodenheimer, Nettie Anderson, Bess Southern, Sarah Anderson, Pat Puckett, and Beatrice Merritt. Brothers were John, Jim, Lee, Buford, and Worth. Ann was the last surviving of the Anderson siblings.
Ann graduated Old Richmond High School in 1942 and the Winston-Salem School of Nursing in 1962. She worked as an LPN for Forsyth Memorial Hospital for 10 years followed by employment as a private duty nurse for an additional 10 years.
She married George Howard Mabe in 1943. Her children are Mike Mabe, Glenda Boles, and Tim Mabe. Mike and his wife Doreen, Glenda and her husband Richard live in Pfafftown. Tim and his wife Nelly live in Harrisburg, NC. Ann and Howard were married 47 years at the time of his death in 1990. Ann was the center of strength in this family and always possessed a kind and gentle nature that was an example for her husband and children. She was patient and was never aroused to anger. She loved festive occasions and was quick to participate in fun activities at family gatherings. Ann read poetry, sang songs to her family and entertained family members with quotations brought forth from her memory. Her faith and trust in God were evident to all who knew her. Ann was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, the Old Richmond Extension Homemakers Club, and the Hanes Mall Walkers Club. Mrs. Mabe traveled on bus tours to discover interesting places. She was a beautiful example of life and loved her children, grandchildren and others who got to know this precious person. She loved to remember and recall the history of people and families in the Pfafftown and Dozier areas of Forsyth County. She wrote her autobiography in 1998 and had it published into a book. It is entitled “Precious Memories” and one copy is in the North Carolina History room at the downtown public library. In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren: Amy Hatcher, Shane Hatcher (Sabrina), David Mabe (Joan), Jennifer Porter (Ken), James Mabe, and Daisy Mabe. Prior to that Tim and Nelly, and Glenda and Richard cared for her in their homes for many months.
