

He was born on November 26, 1925, on Thanksgiving Day in Davidson County to David Alexander Nifong and Pearle Cecil Lambeth Nifong. He married Audrey Louise Rierson on November 12, 1950.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear wife, Audrey Louise Rierson, his youngest son, Roger Dale Nifong, and three brothers, Raeford Odell, Marvin Alexander, and Bruce Albert Nifong. He is survived by his son, Michael David Nifong, of the home and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was baptized into the membership of New Friendship Baptist Church in August 1936 and was later voted to be the President of the young people’s group at New Friendship during World War II and was the teacher of the Junior Boys Sunday School Class until December of 1950 when he was called into Military Service. He served during the Korean War and suffered a severe head injury while in combat in Korea on October 3, 1951. As a result, he was awarded a Bronze Service Star, a Purple Heart Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. After returning home, he attended Draughon Business College receiving a Certificate of Proficiency in Secretarial Accounting. He was an accountant for Shirley Mitchell and Hennis Trucking Company for many years. Later, he worked for Douglas Battery Company and Rock Tenn - finally retiring in his 70’s. In his retirement years, he loved to crochet and crocheted many blankets for family and friends. He also crocheted approximately 1800 baby blankets for “Infants In Need” all from memory never using a pattern. He completed his last blanket at the VA home in August of this year.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 22nd at 3pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Reverend Chris Byrne officiating. Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
