Eldred N. Cart, Jr, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on March 19, 2018 after complications from heart surgery. He was born January 6, 1934 in Irvington, KY to parents Eldred N. Cart, Sr and Nellie Toler Cart.
A profession of faith in Jesus Christ was made during elementary school years. He was active in church and Boy Scouts as a youth. He held a variety of jobs while in high school and college, mowing yards, selling ladies shoes at a shoe store, file clerk at a railroad company and at a post office to name a few. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at University of Louisville and then a M.S. in Chemical Engineering at Ohio State University. After college, he had a career with Exxon that lasted 37 years. During those years he was very active in church choirs, church treasurer, and working with youth. Most recently, he was an active member of Calvary Baptist in Winston Salem, NC in the choir, children’s department, and in the finance department.
Eldred is survived by his wife Harriet of 61 years, sons Tim, Larry, and Don, along with 5 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2018 at 1:00pm followed by funeral services at 2:00pm at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of his favorite charities, Samaritan’s Purse, or the charity of your choice.
