He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Melva “Jean” Anderson. They married and moved to Winston-Salem with their few belongings and two children, Daniel (Becky) Anderson and Wanda Anderson, to take a job with Western Electric. They had a daughter, Deborah (Gary) Veit a few years after moving. He retired from AT&T after a 38 year career.
During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, and just spending time at home with Jean. He and Jean were faithful members of Bethany Baptist Church for almost 70 years: where he was a deacon, sang in the choir, worked in the junior department, and was an “official” greeter. He and Jean were also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will always be remembered for his special smile and laugh.
The family would like to thank Heritage Woods for the years of wonderful care he received and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the loving care received not only by Herbert, but his entire family.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 12th at 3pm at Bethany Baptist Church, 600 Old Hollow Rd. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 2pm. A private burial will take place at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice.
