

He graduated from Waco High School in 1944 and faithfully attended class reunions, including his 69th this past August. He also graduated from Gardner-Webb College and Wake Forest College. He received a Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina. During this time, he also served in the Navy as Seaman First Class.
Jack devoted his life to helping others through his work, church, and community involvement. He worked for the Burke County Department of Welfare, the Cleveland County Department of Welfare (also serving as Director), and the North Carolina State Welfare Department. He was the Director of the Social Work Department at The Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem for twenty years and the Director of Social Work, Director of Admissions, Administrator, Vice-President of health Services, and Interim Director for The Baptist Retirement Home of North Carolina for fourteen years.
He was a member of many community organizations including the Jaycees, Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions Clubs, and the Area Mental Health Board. Jack loved his church and had been an active member since 1959. He served in many capacities including Director of Sunday School and Adult Training, Chair of several committees, deacon, and long-time Sunday school teacher.
More important than the things he did, was the person he was. Jack was a kind man with a gentle heart who strived to love and help others. He cherished his family and left a beautiful example for them to follow.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hoyle of the home; three children, Kevin Hoyle and wife Julia of Clemson, SC, Larry Hoyle and wife Terri of McLeansville, NC, and Tammy Cashwell and husband Craig of Winston-Salem. He is survived by six grandchildren, Caleb Hoyle, Gabriel Hoyle, Nicolas Hoyle, Abigail Hoyle, Samantha Cashwell, and Jay McLellan. He also leaves many cherished friends and family members.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 6, at 1:30 pm at College Park Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:30 that same day.
