Jacqueline Ann Sargent Garr, lovingly known as "Jackie," passed away on June 17, 2026 at the age of 59, in Dobson, North Carolina. Born on September 20, 1966, at St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey.
Jackie was the daughter of Eugene Adrian Turner and Regina Eve Turner. As she grew up, her family moved frequently as new job opportunities came, as did new experiences that formed the well rounded woman she grew to be. Later, her education allowed her to build a successful and widely respected career as both a paralegal and accountant. Beyond her career, she spent time volunteering in her children’s scout troops, finding fulfillment in helping others.
On November 22, 2000, Jackie married the love of her life, James Albert Garr. Together they built a loving family that became the center of her world. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, offering encouragement, or enjoying time with her family, she helped create memories that will be carried with us forever.
In March 2017, Jackie suffered a devastating brain hemorrhage, and though she faced overwhelming odds, Jackie met every obstacle with extraordinary determination and an unwavering will to recover. Through her strength, faith, and the support of those who loved her, Jackie achieved what many considered remarkable—a near full recovery. She returned to the activities she loved, embracing life with renewed appreciation. Her recovery gave her nearly another decade to create memories and experience the things she had always dreamed of doing.
A faithful Catholic, Jackie was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Her faith guided her throughout her life and sustained her through both life's blessings and challenges.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Turner, and her parents-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Garr. Though she is survived by her loving husband of more than twenty-five years, James Albert Garr; her mother, Regina Eve Turner; her children, Jennifer Jones (John), Joshua Swing (Hannah), Daniel Garr, Joseph Swing (Sarah), Andrew Garr, Matthew Garr (Tara), and Julianne Garr; her six beloved grandchildren; and her brothers, Howard Sargent and Christopher Sargent.
Those who knew Jackie will remember her incredible ability to love her family and friends unconditionally while remaining strong-willed and fiercely independent. She was a protector of those she loved, never afraid to speak up, stand firm in her beliefs, or lend her strength to someone in need. Her loyalty, courage, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family touched countless lives and will continue to inspire all who knew her. One of Jackie’s favorite quotes from Han Solo was "Never tell me the odds." It reflected the way she lived her life—with a willingness to face challenges head-on. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, strength, and spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9
