

Leon was born to the late Gwendolyn and James Farrow, Sr. in Winston-Salem, NC. He matriculated through the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system, graduating from North Forsyth High School. He then furthered his education by attending Forsyth Technical Community College advancing his degree in Auto Mechanics.
Leon dedicated 40 years to careers involving electrical utilities, banking, hospitality, and finally retiring from Wake Forest Graylyn Estates as a night auditor.
Leon grew up in St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was ordained as a Deacon by the late Joseph R. Samuels on October 28, 2001. Throughout his life, Leon shared his many gifts with the church, particularly his remarkable talent for singing. Though he had not been actively involved in recent years, his contributions and dedication to the church community are fondly remembered.
Leon was preceded in death by his mother Gwendolyn Griffin, sister Cynthia Crutchfield, his father James Farrow, Sr., his grandmother Azalee Bines and a host of other family members. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years Audrey Bell-Farrow. That union yielded 3 children Leah (Antwan) Steele Sr., Gwendolyn (Ricardo) Hughes Sr., James Leon Farrow, III. They have been blessed with 6 grandchildren, Antwan Steele Jr., Layla Steele, Braylen Farrow, Noah Hughes, Autumn Farrow, Jream Hughes, and 3 bonus grandchildren Jordan Hughes, Ricardo Hughes Jr., Caleb Hughes, two nieces Sharon Crutchfield and Elaine (Haywood) Dunlap, Godson Deacon Marshall Levon (Jon’Shel) Lawrence Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was blessed with a host of dear friends who meant a great deal to him and his family throughout his life. Ronnie (India) Caldwell, Deacon Nathaniel & Diane Barber and family, Mr. Marshall & Mercedes Lawrence and family, just to name a few.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His love, wisdom, and kindness will remain in our hearts forever. He has gone home to be with the Lord and will be forever in God’s care. Well done Good and Faithful servant.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2pm at Vogler Funeral & Cremations. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 1pm prior to the service.
