Margaret Brown Holland passed away on March 15, 2014. She was born October 27, 1924 to Edna and David Brown of Statesville, NC. She was married to Paul D. Holland, Sr. for 45 years who preceded her in death in 1991. She also had one brother who preceded her in death in 2006. Mrs. Holland graduated from NC Baptist Hospital of Nursing in 1946. She worked at Baptist Hospital until 1956 when she started the first Practical Nursing School in NC. The school began with 7 students. She wrote the curriculum, taught the 5 classes and took them into the hospital for practice. Within 10 years, there were 7 teachers and a long waiting list for admission. After retiring she spent most of her time reading, sewing, traveling and working at Ardmore Baptist Church where she was a member. In later years, she became a resident at the Reynolda Park assisted living facility where she made many friends. To all of us she was known as “Gma” and will be greatly missed. Left behind to cherish her memory are her two children, Peggy (Rex) Stewart and Paul Jr. (Mary) Holland. She had four grandchildren; Marie (Tim) Tuttle, Chad Livengood, Chris Holland and Amanda Holland (Nick). Also surviving are six great grandchildren; Nicholas, Cody, Justin, Chase, Lauren, Kristen and lots of extended family, especially Mary Holland’s family. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 17, 2014, 6:00-8:00 pm, at Voglers Funeral Home at 2951 Reynolda Road. Burial will be at Forsyth Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
