Miles was born on February 24, 1984, in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Donald M. Matthews and Vilia W. Marshall. During his childhood, he enjoyed playing baseball, making new inventions, and exploring with his family. As he grew older, Miles found a passion for weightlifting and spent many hours in the gym. When he wasn’t working out, he enjoyed crunching numbers, exploring spreadsheets, and trying to find the best way to build for the future.
Miles encouraged you to be your most successful self, or he was giving you a hard time to help get you going. He enjoyed hosting meals at his place or going out to grab a quick bite; he was always up for a meal. At the end of a long week, playing with his nieces and nephews and hearing about their dreams gave him the greatest joy and pride in life. Miles will be remembered for his charismatic personality, funny commentary at our family meals, his boisterous laugh, and a roller coaster kid toss that kept the giggles going. He spent his life working hard, building his career at Wells Fargo, all the while battling a disease most will never understand. We are proud to know that even during his final hours he shared love and light, spreading hope to others.
In addition to his parents, Miles was greeted in heaven by his stepfather, Robert “Bob” Marshall Jr. He leaves behind his stepmother, Sherry W. Matthews; siblings, Valerie (Don) Woodard, Todd (Sonia) Matthews, Vilia “Jenny” (Mike) McClearen, Terri (Jim) Morrow, Jacob “Jake” Matthews, and Robert B. Marshall III; nephews and nieces, Jackson and Madelyn Woodard, Kaitlyn, Julie, and James McClearen, Cooper and Emmy Morrow, and Alanna Marshall; as well as many other loved ones and friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life and Worship Service on Saturday, April 6th at 2pm in the Forsyth Memorial Park Sanctuary. We are grateful to Vogler Funeral and Cremations for their compassion and kindness as we guide our brother to his final resting place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to one of the following charities: Daymark Recovery Services, Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, or Bethesda Center, to help support local families left walking this earth who are struggling and need help. Thanks to anyone who ever helped and supported Miles!
