Monte Larue Winston went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 3, 2023 at age 70. Monte was born on November 19, 1952 in Raleigh, NC to the late William Winston and Hattie Guys Winston. He was preceded in death by two sisters Phyllis A. Hinton, Rita L. Dunn, and one son Montrell J. Winston.
Monte attendant Wake County Public Schools System and he graduated from W.G Enloe High School. He also attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. Monte was a loyal NC State Wolfpack basketball and football fan!
Monte was not a stranger to hard work! He was a dependable and dedicated worker. He gave his all in his work. He worked as a forklift driver for Exxon Battery for 10 years. He worked a few years with Atlantic Construction Company and then worked at Container Recycling Alliance in Raleigh for 14 years until his retirement.
Monte had a strong faith in the Lord or as he would say, “Lord God Jesus!" He believe in the power of prayer and the Word of God. While living in Raleigh he attended Trinity United Faith Center Church and Shiloh DMI in Garner. He was also a devoted family man. Monte brought great joy to his family. He was a man of strong faith; which allowed him to be optimistic. He was known for saying things like “I’m steppin, but not too high," or “In this life you better learn to bend, but not break.” He could always find good in any situation and never wanted to see anyone down.
Eight years ago, Monte relocated to Winston-Salem. He loved his apartment, living independently, and making countless memories with his grandson, Jayden! He was well loved in his Plaza South Community and he was known as Pops or Pop-Pop to them; you could best believe the community made sure their Pops never wanted for anything! Monte never met a stranger. While he was able he would cook on the grill and invite his friends in the community. Monte was well known for his animated, hilarious stories that no one could tell like him! His family and friends will definitely miss his sense of humor and the way he always managed to laugh at his own jokes.
Monte’s memory will be cherished and lived on through his children, Monte L Winston Jr., Quenita Winston, Charlotte Winston, Ja’keya McNeil-Medlin (Anthony), Demectric Gause, Tiesa Bryant (Anthony); siblings, Ralph Guys (Brenda), Bishop Howard V. Winston (Ralphine), Robert D. Banks, Vicky W. Brown (Bobby), Janet Y. Tyler (Walter), Joyce E. Winston, and Wanda M. Smith; grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
