Rachel Lou Barham Bovender, 94, of Greensboro and formerly of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at Carriage House Senior Living. She was born June 29, 1928 in Guilford County to John and Nancy Eliza Tilly Barham.
Rachel loved her family more than anything and was always there to give advice or lend a sympathetic ear.
She was an active member of the First Assembly of God in Winston-Salem. She loved to sing in the choir along with several other church activities.
Rachel graduated from Greensboro High School and immediately began working for Ryder Truck Lines at the age of 19 where she worked for the next 38 years. She was proud of what she did and spoke about her time there often.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bovender; daughter, Janice Williams; son-in-law, Jamie; sisters, Lois Foster (Hugh) and Eva Dixon (Jim); brother, Charles Barham (Bennie-Lou); and niece, Lori Kennedy.
She is survived by her brother, John “Bud” Barham (Martha); children, Shelby Britt, Patti Raynor, and Buster & Lynn Raynor; stepchildren, Sherry & David Smith, and Tim & Vicki Bovender; grandchildren, Jennifer Honeycutt (Jeff), Vaughn Kendricks, Ginger Clark (Todd), Jessie Martin (Angela), Patrick Raynor, and Cameron Raynor; great-grandchildren, McKinley, Brandon, Emily, Meri, Bailey, and Allie; great-great-grandchildren, Audrey, Alice, and Oliver; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Her final few years were spent at Carriage House Memory Care of Greensboro. There she was quick to make several friend, both residents and staff. All of which provided so much excellent care and love.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Vogler Funeral Home at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Rachel wanted memorials made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Brenner’s Children’s Hospital, 300 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
