Ray Allen Lambert was born in Bethania, NC to parents Lloyd Jasper and Lelia Durham Lambert on April 12, 1932. He lived in Forsyth County for most of his life. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy from 1951 to 1954, during which he spent time stationed in Bermuda. He brought his family to Bermuda in 2005, showing them where he helped build a church on the former naval base.
After his military service, he pursued further education at North Carolina State University. He graduated in 1960, earning his BS in Electrical Engineering. He and Peggy lived in married student housing at NCSU called “Vetville.” He served a year as mayor of Vetville prior to graduation. He remained a huge Wolfpack and ABC (Anybody But Carolina) fan for the remainder of his life, often sporting NCSU gear. He was most famous for his bucket hats emblazoned with Tuffy Wuf.
Ray attended Elm Grove Methodist Church where he had served in many roles, including being a Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, and faithful member.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Norma Lea (Clayton), Floyd “Jack”, James, Lloyd Jasper “LJ” Jr (Gladys), Roy (Blanche), and Patsy Jo (Boyd). Ray is survived by his wife Peggy Jane; they shared 70 wonderful years together. He was loved by a large family. He and Peggy had two sons, Tim (Susan) of Concord and Rev. Anthony “Andy” (Renee) of Yadkinville. They spent many weekends and trips to Myrtle Beach with their granddaughters: Meredith (Neil) Werdal, Grace (Luke) Wells, Kristen (Howard) Luk, and Joy (Abbie) Lambert-Davis. Ray was, also, a proud great-grandfather to Logan, Oliver, Charlie, Henry, and Teddy.
