Raymond Lester Scott

February 18, 1956 – June 17, 2025
Obituary of Raymond Lester Scott
IN THE CARE OF

Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park

Raymond Lester “Butch” Scott, 69, of Kernersville, NC passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2025, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

Born on February 18, 1956, in Martinsville, VA, Raymond was the beloved son of the late Lester Scott and Paula Gwaltney. He spent his early years in Martinsville, VA, and later made his home in Forsyth County, NC, where he lived most of his adult life.

Raymond earned a business degree from Radford University and spent his career helping others through his work as an insurance adjuster and property claims manager. In retirement, he pursued his interest in real estate and earned his license, remaining active and engaged in his community.

He was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a man of profound faith who lived life to the fullest. Raymond found joy in healthy living, exercising, traveling with his beloved wife Debbie and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit on the dance floor and the way he lit up every room with laughter and kindness. He especially cherished family trips to Hilton Head Island, where he enjoyed riding bikes through Sea Pines, visiting Harbour Town, and shopping at the Salty Dog. Those coastal adventures brought him immense joy and countless memories.

Raymond was the ultimate family man—selfless, loyal and determined to provide for and protect his family. He was happiest when planning the next adventure, surrounded by loved ones, decorating for the holidays, vacationing with family, or visiting Biltmore with Debbie. Raymond and Debbie were two peas in a pod who did everything together—each other’s one true love. Their favorite thing was being together. Raymond was and will forever be adored by Debbie, whom he also adored beyond words. They were each other’s constant, comfort, and greatest joy. Simply put, life was always better by each other’s side.

Fatherhood brought Raymond profound joy, pride, purpose and a deep sense of fulfillment. He was immensely proud of his daughter, Meredith, and son, Matthew. He was also a doting grandfather to his grandson Brooks, who affectionately called him “Poppy”. Raymond’s eyes lit up whenever talking about Brooks, and his love for his family knew no bounds.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Deborah Scott of Kernersville, NC; daughter Meredith McIntosh (Zack) of Apex, NC, son Matthew Scott (Jessica) of Cary, NC and cherished grandson, Brooks McIntosh. He is also survived by siblings, Steve Scott, Bryan Scott, and Kathy Wilson; stepmother, Ann Barker; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him profoundly.

A private memorial service for immediate family will be held on Saturday, June 28. A celebration of Raymond’s life with friends and family will be planned for a later date, when all loved ones can gather to share memories and honor his joyful spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to take a moment to honor Raymond as he lived his life: enjoying time with family, taking a walk, dancing a little, planning your next adventure or pouring yourself a nice glass of wine.
