OBITUARY

Rosalind Mary Berger

July 27, 1929 – September 18, 2023
Obituary of Rosalind Mary Berger
IN THE CARE OF

Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park

Rosalind Berger was born in Miami, FL and attended Appalachian State Teacher's College in Boone, NC and completed her degree in elementary education in 1952 at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She met her future husband, Charles D. (Doug) Berger at UNC and briefly taught school in Atlanta, GA, a career placed on hold until her own children were of school age. Rosalind resumed teaching as a substitute in DeKalb County, GA.

Rosalind's family was the center of her life. She loved to share any news she received about any member of her extended family. She was a do-it-yourselfer before "DIY" was an acronym. She taught herself to cook and sew, making meals during the day, while finishing the last stitching on clothes for her children at night. Her young family never knew of cookies from a bag, or mac & cheese from a box. She was a lifelong collector of recipes, and had a keen interest in home decorating. She was also interested in, and passionate about, business and politics, and loved a good, spirited discussion. Rosalind also took great delight in the ordinary, squealing her excitement when viewing the snow-capped San Francisco peaks as they came into view on drives up I17 into Flagstaff. She loved to make recommendations or give advice when she thought she could help someone solve a problem.

Despite being hearing impaired most of her life, Rosalind loved music of many types - opera, classical, Broadway show tunes, pop and country. As a teen, she ushered at the opera in order to attend an experience that was otherwise unaffordable. One favorite piece was "Going Home," music by Czeck composer Antonin Dvorak, lyrics by William Arms Fisher. Rosalind Berger is now going home to all the loved ones who preceded her. Rest in peace dearest Rosalind.

Rosalind is survived by her husband of 71 years, Doug Berger, daughter Dale Berger of Oak Park, MI, son, Stephen D. (Doug Berger of Phoenix, AZ, granddaughter, Courtney Webb of Houston, TX. Rosalind was predeceased by brother John B. Isom, sister-in-law, Margaret, brother, Morris P. Isom sister-in-law Patricia (Pat), brother-in-law. Wilson Berger, wife, Hilda (Hink), brother-in-law Glen Berger, and wife, Mary Louise. She is also survived by 7 nieces and 3 nephews.
