Roxie was born April 23, 1928, in Wake County a daughter to the late Archibald Walters and Vianna Sherron Walters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Josiah “Joe” Eldridge, a son, Jeffery “Jeff” Eldridge, her second husband, Lawrence “Larry” Murray, and a brother, Wiley Walters.
Roxie was a resident of Winston-Salem for more than 60 years. She was a charter member of Old Town Baptist Church. Roxie was also a 1952 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She was a dedicated homemaker completely devoted to her family. Roxie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be truly missed.
She is survived by a son, Mark Eldridge and his wife, Susan of Omaha, NE; a daughter, Jo Ann Kruse and her husband, Edward of Montgomery Village, MD; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Eldridge of Ponce Inlet, FL; two step-children, Megan Hauser and husband, Gray of Clemmons and Chris Murray and wife, Sandy of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren, Melissa Doughty and her husband, Scott, Candice Pennington and her husband, Matthew, Janson Eldridge, Natalie Reid and her husband, Patrick, Nathan Blanchard and his wife, Courtney, Jennifer Eldridge, Meredith Blanchard, Ashlyn Eldridge, James Eldridge and Mitch Eldridge; seven great-grandchildren, Savannah, Jude, Liam, Gavin, Annabelle, Aspen, and Josephine; four step-grandchildren, Matt Hauser and his wife, Abbi, Katie Hauser, Jake Hauser, Meredith Kruse, and one step-great-grandson, Ayden.
A celebration of Roxie’s life will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, July 3rd at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. There will be a private burial immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 PM, Thursday, prior to the service at Old Town Baptist Church, 4386 Shattalon Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
