Born on September 13, 1949, Tom was the beloved son of James and Annie Amilee Sizemore (both deceased).
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Jettie Bouchelle Sizemore; his children, Jonathan Edward Sizemore, and his wife, Kerri Epps Sizemore, and Jocelyn Sizemore Bates; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, Sailor, Natalie, and Molly.
Tom was born near his mother’s hometown of Crewe, Virginia. He spent most of his childhood years in Winston-Salem, where he attended RJ Reynolds and North Forsyth high schools. After high school he went to Milligan College in the Tennessee mountains. He married Jettie in 1972. He dedicated much of his career to Piedmont and USAir in Crew Accommodations, and enjoyed traveling to many great destinations.
Tom was an accomplished guitar player, taking inspiration from great players such as Merle Travis, Doc Watson, and Chet Atkins. He was also a longtime enthusiast of automobiles and watches. After becoming a grandfather, he earned the affectionate nickname “Grumpa” for his comically grumpy disposition, though he was always kind, loving, and deeply devoted to his family.
Tom became a Christian through the ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 50 years. He belonged to the Spence bible fellowship class.
A funeral service will be held on July 11 at Calvary: 134 S. Peacehaven Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104. The family will receive friends at 5 PM, followed by a service at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church or the KB Reynolds Hospice Center, in his honor.
Tom will be remembered for his humor, his big heart, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.
