

He was born in Forsyth County on January 4, 1933, to the late Robert and Blanche Jones. He was a graduate of the Junior Order United Mechanics Children’s Home in Lexington, NC. While growing up in the children’s home, he met Ruby Lea Dail which became his wife of 53 years. Mr. Jones proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. After his time in the Navy, he worked at Hanes Dye and Finishing. He graduated from High Point College. Upon graduating, he began his career at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he held various positions for 28 years, with his last position being personnel manager.
In his spare time, he had many hobbies. Mr. Jones enjoyed being a member and operating his HAM radio (WD4EQM) where he communicated with others all over the world. He also enjoyed woodworking, photography, bird watching, sports, and working in his yard. During the winter months when he was unable to be outside, he also enjoyed building model wooden ships. Mr. Jones always loved airplanes, and he received his private pilot’s license which gave him the opportunity to enjoy flying. He was often a quick-witted prankster to fill the room with laughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Dail Jones. Left to cherish Mr. Jones’ memories are his very special friend and companion, Carol Bates; daughters, Dea (Steve) Tilly and Kelly (Phillip) Simmons; grandchildren, Steven (Mandy) Tilly Jr, Brennan (Luke) Daniel, Bryan (Kati) Tsiolkas, Tanner (Hannah) Simmons, Trevor (Maddie) Simmons, and Trace (Johanna) Simmons; great grandchildren, Raelyn Daniel, Maggie Tsiolkas, William Tsiolkas, Quinn Tilly, and Carter Tilly; as well as special nieces, nephew, and many other loved ones and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th from 5pm-7pm at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 11am at Forsyth Memorial Park located at 3815 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
