Charlie Miller McGuffee, beloved husband, father, granddaddy, and great-grandaddy, passed away peacefully at the Orlando Regional Cornerstone Hospice Care Center surrounded by his family on March 21, 2019. He was 82.
Born May 9, 1936 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Charlie was renown among his family and friends for his patience, kindness, fairness, and resourcefulness. He was willing to help anyone who needed it and could fix almost anything.
Charlie was a lifelong Southern Baptist. He met the love of his life and wife of 61 years, MaryLou Simpson, at Trinity Baptist Church in Vicksburg. He enjoyed gospel music and served as a minister of music, choir director, youth minister, and deacon throughout his church life.
He served in the Mississippi National Guard Reserve where he developed an affinity for driving large transport trucks that lead to a career in transport and delivery for Hormel in Mobile, Alabama and later Douglas Battery in Orlando. He also worked in construction as a site foreman during the building of the Contemporary Hotel at Walt Disney World.
He was an automobile aficionado, was very fond of the Chrysler Motor Company, and appreciated well-maintained classic cars in general. One of his favorite pastimes was strolling down memory lane during downtown Winter Garden car shows.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Barnes and Gwinnette; brothers James, JM, Robert, Austin, Sidney, and Billy; and sisters Adele and Jessie.
He is survived by his wife, MaryLou; children, Mark (Kim Sue), Kenny (Nancy), Karen (Jody), and Kim (Dan); grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Michael (Allison), Matthew, Justin (Jennifer), and Dillon (Ginger); and great grandchildren, Isabelle, Colin, Katelyn, Jackson, and Charlie Mae.
