Curtis Edward Pickens

Curtis was born on July 28, 1931 in McRae, Arkansas and moved to Florida at a very young age. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, Florida. He then enlisted in the Navy and served four years during the Korean War. Following the Navy, he attended and graduated from Florida Southern College with a BS Degree in Agriculture. After graduating he worked for Roper Brothers Citrus in Winter Garden, Florida for twenty plus years until he started West Orange Nursey until his retirement after twenty three years. He lived out his retirement years in Franklin, North Carolina and Winter Garden, Florida.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years Patricia Breymaier Pickens and son, Steven Pickens and daughter Kathryn Pickens both of Winter Garden. He was preceded in death by his parents Dallas and Helen Birdsong Pickens and his sister Martha L. Browning. He also leaves his daughter in law, Tina Pickens, grandchildren Austin Pickens, Brooke Pickens and Bree Pickens Crawford and great granddaughter Bella Crawford.

Curtis was active in his community and church where it was a goal to do God’s will the best he could. He helped start the Windermere Rotary Club where he was the first President. He had lots of friends.

In lieu of flowers, Curtis’s family request that a contribution be made in his memory to a favored charity of the donor’s choice.
