Edmund Abbott

Edmund Abbott, Orlando, FL - Edmund, formerly of Bellows Falls, Vt., passed away on July 3, 2026 at his assisted living facility in Orlando, Florida. He was 92, born in Bellows Falls in 1933, and was the second of seven children of Agnes (Little) and George Abbott.

He was adopted by his grandparents, Mary and George Little, in 1939. With grandmother Mary he visited his uncle, then Sgt. Ralph Little, and his wife Eleanor at Camp Blanding, Florida in 1941 and toured St. Augustine and Silver Spring. He attended the former Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, Vermont where he learned to sign. Despite limited opportunities in the 1950s and 60s for those with oral and hearing disabilities, he was employed in the Bellows Falls bowling alley as a pin setter, where noise was not an issue for him.

Later, he worked with uncle, Dan Bagley, to run an Italian restaurant in Chester, Vermont. Edmund was a fervent baseball fan of the Boston Red Sox, keeping extensive notes on statistics and watching games on TV at every opportunity. In 1977 he moved to Winter Park, Florida with aunt Ethelyn (Little) Bagley, her husband Dan and Edmund’s sister, Mary Ellen. Blessed with good health, the years passed fairly gently for him as he enjoyed his baseball pastime.

Edmund is remembered for an emotional meeting in 2015 with his older brother George after 50 years apart. The family belonged to Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended services in New Hampshire and Florida.

Most recently, he was a member of Orlando’s Adanson Street Congregation, whose signing members comforted and connected him to life throughout his and sister Mary Ellen’s stay in assisted living. There, they enjoyed visitors including Ralph Jr. and Pat (Kelly) Ray of Jacksonville and Bellows Falls and the fresh desserts they brought.

Edmund remained single throughout his life. He is the last to survive of his siblings and is predeceased by Abbott siblings, George L., Charles, Mary (Bagley), Sylvia, Sarah and Sydney. He is survived by nieces Susan Benware of Tennessee, Ann Marie Rogers, Plainfield, NH, and Lisa Wallace, Claremont, NH. and others; as well as cousin Ralph Little, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.
