Our beloved Homelall Kumar, 69, of Orlando, Florida, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 18, 2026. He was born on April 9, 1957, in Leonora, Guyana, to Mathura and Dukhlia Kumar.
Homelall, lovingly known to many as Ballo, migrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1981 at the age of 24, carrying with him the strength, values, and traditions of his Guyanese roots. In 2006, he settled in Orlando, Florida, where this month marked his 20th year in the land he came to call home.
Ballo lived a life defined by family, faith, friendship, hard work, and perseverance. To his family, he was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and protector. He was a steady presence whose love was often shown through acts of service: cooking, teaching, guiding, providing, and passing down the wisdom he gathered throughout his life’s journey.
He pursued his passion in the culinary world and built a respected career in the hospitality and tourism industry. He was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. To family and friends, he will always be remembered for his elaborate fusion dishes and his gift for preparing authentic Guyanese and Indian cuisine. His meals were more than food; they were expressions of love, heritage, and care. Dad, we will miss your chicken curry.
Outside of work, he found joy in fishing, cooking, and spending time with family. He was deeply spiritual and devoted much of his personal study to Hindu texts and scripture, seeking knowledge, strength, and guidance from a higher power. He believed strongly in tradition, cultural values, principles, and the teachings of faith. Hanuman’s boundless energy, devotion, and mastery over the mind were sources of inspiration for him. He also admired Durga’s protective strength, courage, and power, especially the image of her seated upon a tiger.
His greatest legacy can be captured in the words he often lived by, “Keep going.” That phrase reflects his perseverance, resilience, and unshakable will. He was never naive to life’s hardships, but he believed that obstacles could be overcome through strength, faith, and determination. Those who knew him will remember his courage, his honesty, his bold spirit, and his unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Kumar was outspoken, unfiltered, short but mighty. He loved deeply and protected fearlessly.
Homelall is survived by his ever-loving daughter, Natasha; his three grandchildren, Erriah, Ethan, and Elora; his brothers, Kashul, Gangesh, and Totaram; his sisters, Parbattie and Pramchand; and more than 50 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Mathura; his mother, Dukhlia; his siblings, Mohandai, Lalouty, Eslyn, and Mathelais; and his nephews, David and Naresh.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 428 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Wakes will be held nightly at Natasha’s home in Winter Garden.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone near and far for the love, support, prayers, and care shown during this difficult time.
Kumar’s love, lessons, strength, and spirit will live on in all who knew and loved him.
