Lena Hermine Garvey was born on December 6, 1939, in Swift River, Jamaica. She attended primary school in Jamaica and grew into a loving, hardworking, and devoted woman whose life would be centered around her family and caring for those she loved.
Lena later married Lloyd Marcus Garvey, affectionately known as “Marcus.” Together, they built a life and family, welcoming five children during their marriage. Lena was a devoted wife and mother who worked alongside her husband, often helping him with the bar and restaurant they owned. Their marriage remained an important part of her life until Marcus passed away in 2000.
Seeking new opportunities and a new chapter for her family, Lena eventually moved to America. There, her role as a mother expanded into one of her greatest joys—being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She played an important part in helping raise many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, offering them the same love, guidance, and care she had given her own children.
Lena was also a hardworking woman. She worked for Fairfield Inn for many years before retiring. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. She continued to devote much of her time to helping care for and raise her grandchildren and enjoying the family she cherished so deeply.
In her quieter moments, Lena enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She found happiness in simple pleasures, but nothing brought her greater joy than spending time surrounded by her family. Her home, her hands, and her heart were always busy caring for the people she loved.
Lena was blessed with seven children: Barbara, Anthony, Karen, Barrington, Jacqueline, and twins Andrew and Ann-Marie. Through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the family she helped build grew across generations.
On September 13, 2026, Lena completed her earthly journey at the age of 86. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, the love, strength, traditions, and memories she gave her family will continue to live on through every generation that follows.
She leaves behind her seven beloved children, over 30 grandchildren and close to 15 great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Lena’s life was one of family, hard work, service, and love. Her greatest legacy can be seen in the generations she nurtured and the family she leaves behind. May her memory continue to bloom, just like the gardens she so lovingly tended.
Rest peacefully, Lena. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
