Born on November 27, 1934 in Isla de los Pinos, he was the youngest of 14 children born to Gabino and Juana Fernández.
As a young man he enjoyed spear fishing, deep diving, and racing boats. In his later years he loved playing golf with his sons, playing dominoes with his grandchildren and watching Family Feud.
He was preceded in death by his son Conrado Fernández, and his grandson Conrad (CJ) Fernández, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Noraida, daughters, Mercedes, Yamile (Brian), and Janete, and son, Javier (Sara); 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
The family is planning to spread his ashes in the Gulf of Mexico in hopes that the currents will take some of his ashes to Isla de los Pinos.
