Robert Jerome (Fergie) Ferguson, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2020. He was born in Scranton, PA on December 23, 1926 to the late Patrick and Catherine Grossman Ferguson. Fergie was the youngest of eight children. He attended Scranton Technical High School and after graduation, joined the US Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, Fergie worked for 25 years at Scranton Lace Company where he met his future wife, Mary Patricia (Pat) Watson. They married on July 5, 1952 at Nativity Church in Scranton.
Fergie, Pat and their seven children lived in the Scranton and Northeast Pennsylvania area until 1979 when they headed to a warmer climate in Florida. At that time, Fergie began working in the hotel industry from where he ultimately retired. In 1999, Fergie and Pat moved back to Scranton. In 2015, they returned to Florida where they remained until his death.
Fergie was an avid sports fan playing baseball, golf and bowling for much of his adult life. He was a long-time member of the Holy Name Bowling League in Scranton, and the Tuesday Morning Golf Club. Fergie was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and closely followed the team.
Fergie and Pat raised seven children together, were blessed with 13 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Mary Pat, parents Patrick and Catherine Grossman Ferguson, infant brother Patrick, Jr., sisters Kathleen Barber, Alice Culkin, Mary Ferguson, Margaret Foster, Helen Harrison, Florence Kelly and grandson Jack Sargis.
He is survived by his children Mary Ellen Cappelloni (John) Scranton, PA; Robert Jr., Orlando, FL; Patricia Cappelloni (Al), Sudbury, MA; Tim (Colleen), Mooresville, NC; Maureen, Winter Garden FL; Susan Sargis (John) of Coconut Creek FL and Dan (Donna), Windermere, FL.
