Ronald Walter Gehret, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Born on June 23, 1940, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Ronald was the beloved son of Elwood Gehret and Mary Petrillo Longo.
Ronald graduated from Reading High School in 1958 and soon after embarked on a distinguished service with the United States Marine Corps, beginning in September 1958. His commitment to his country was paralleled by his dedication to his education, as he later attended The Pennsylvania State University. In 1963, Ronald earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, a field in which he excelled, ultimately obtaining his Professional Engineer's license.
Ronald's career was marked by his 28 years of service at MetEd Electric Company, where he was known for his expertise, professionalism, and unwavering work ethic. His contributions to the company and the field of electrical engineering were significant and lasting.
On August 24, 1963, Ronald married the love of his life, Barbara Handy Gehret.
Together, they built a loving home and family, raising two wonderful children, Cheryl and Doug. Ronald was a proud and devoted father and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to his three cherished grandchildren, Sara, Stephanie, and Trevor.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, his daughter Cheryl, his son Doug, and his three grandchildren. He is also survived by his two half-siblings, Jerry and Terry Gehret. Ronald's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In remembering Ronald, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life of service, dedication, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
