Born on January 13, 1943, he was the son of the late William D. McCuch and Margaret (Campbell) McCuch. He was preceded in death by his older brother, William “Bill” McCuch. Survived by his younger brother Dominick McCuch.
Tom is also survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley (Farkas) McCuch. Tom and Shirley met at a sock hop in Windber, Pennsylvania, and were married in October 1965. They started a beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a testament to partnership and commitment, and they cherished gathering each evening around the family dinner table.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army and was deeply respected by his fellow servicemen. After returning home, he graduated from Widener University and began a distinguished 30-year career as a systems analyst with Sun Oil Company.
Faith was the cornerstone of Tom and Shirley’s life together. Both were deeply involved in their church community. In addition to faithfully attending Mass, Tom served for many years as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and a catechist, living out his faith through service to others.
Tom and Shirley were blessed with two children, Tommy and Tracy. Tom devoted countless hours supporting Tommy on his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout, proudly attending activities and celebrating milestones along the way. Though he often joked that he preferred “holding up the wall” rather than dancing, he never missed a father-daughter dance with his beloved daughter Tracy, always showing up for his favorite girl.
Those who admired him most were his six grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as “Pop Pop.” After retiring, he found a special way to stay close to his granddaughters by working as a lunchroom janitor at their parish school. It gave him joy to see them each day. His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy. His eyes lit up at the sight of them — a reflection of the deep and abiding love he carried for each one.
Beyond his devotion to family and faith, Tom had a lifelong love of sports. He was a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies, rarely missing a game. He welcomed anyone to sit beside him and cheer on his teams, but he especially treasured watching alongside his fellow superfan and son-in-law, Frank Barone.
A memorial service will be held in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, during the summer, with burial to follow in Windber, Pennsylvania. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to his church of many years; Mother of Divine Providence Parish:
