Born on April 1, 1931, Albert lived a life defined by devotion to his wife, his children, his faith, and his country.
He was a loving and caring husband to his late wife, Lorraine Pearl Thorson, and a protective, committed father and grandfather who never hesitated to put his family first. Albert carried a quiet strength, a sharp wit, and a warm humor that made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
A proud veteran, Albert served his country with honor and discipline. His military life shaped him into a man who could be counted on in every circumstance. He was a builder, a helper, and someone who always showed up when others needed support. He worked hard, lived simply, and carried himself with the steady dependability of a man who believed in doing things the right way.
Albert lived in close daily fellowship with the Lord and developed a deep personal relationship with God through decades of private study. Without seeking recognition, he became an unknowingly biblical theologian, often surprising lifelong Christians with the depth of his understanding. His faith was quiet, humble, and lived rather than performed.
He remembered every birthday. He hated waiting. He moved quickly, thought deeply, and loved fully. He often stepped outside and said, “What a pretty day,” especially during the years he spent in Florida, a place he cherished. His guiding principle, “Always do the right thing,” shaped not only his life but the lives of those he raised.
In his final days, Albert wanted nothing more than to be at home, surrounded by family. He expressed his gratitude every single day, reminding those around him how much their presence meant to him.
Albert is survived by the family he loved, including his children, Diana Filiatrault (Steve Filiatrault), Bino Thorson Duran (Keyla Duran), and Daniel Thorson, as well as his grandchildren, Cole Kaffenbarger and Emilie Filiatrault, and siblings Ned Thorson, Karen Thorson, Lloyd Thorson, and Sandra Barstow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Pearl Thorson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 W Central Ave, Winter Haven, Florida 33880 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Friday, September 18th at 11:30 AM.
