June 1, 1947 – September 23, 2025
Carolyn Devitt of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on September 23, 2025, at the age of 78. She was surrounded by her brothers John and Wayne Bennett, sister-in-law Tina, niece Tracie, and great-nephew Elijah in her home she lovingly shared with John and Elijah.
Born on June 1, 1947, in Waycross, Georgia, Carolyn lived a life marked by excellence, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family, country, and Protestant Christian faith. She earned her master’s degree in engineering and served with distinction as a project manager and computer systems analyst at the Pentagon, working for the Department of Defense before her retirement. Her intellect, leadership, and dedication left a lasting impact.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Thomas “JT” Bennett and Irene Albritton; her cherished son, Scott Michael Devitt; her former husband, Doug Devitt; and her dear brother, Stephen Bennett.
She is survived by her brothers Wayne Bennett (Tina) and John Bennett, who will carry forward her memory with strength and grace. Carolyn was a treasured aunt to Tracie Bennett Thornton (Alton), Tait Michael Bennett (Nicole), and Shawn Michael Bennett (Michelle), and a proud great-aunt to ten nephews and eight nieces.
Carolyn was a talented artist and writer who found joy in expressing her love for family through stories and creative projects. She enjoyed gardening, listening to music, and shopping for meaningful treasures, especially alongside her sister-in-law Tina, whose companionship brought her great delight. She was a loving mother to her son and a protective, devoted sister to her brothers.
She also found deep peace in nature. Carolyn loved walking along the beach, collecting seashells, and admiring the quiet beauty of the ocean. These simple joys reflected her gentle spirit and her appreciation for God’s handiwork in creation.
Funeral services will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home at 645 W. Central Avenue, Winter Haven, Florida (863-293-2133). A chapel service will be held on October 11th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred at Eagle Lake Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Florida—the final resting place of her father, son, and brother.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
The family would like to thank you for your prayers, love, and support during this time of remembrance.
