Charlotte was a member of First Baptist Church of Winter Haven, Florida since she was a child. She married her loving husband, Joel Mercer, at that church and they both became very involved in different church activities. Charlotte loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed helping to care for other animals of the family, including a pony, monkeys and a pig.
Charlotte was an avid adventurer. She enjoyed boat riding in the chain of lakes and deep sea fishing trips in the Gulf of Mexico. She also delighted in international travel with Joel to Cuba, London, Paris, Brussels, Austria, Germany, Mexico City, Bahamas and the Panama Canal. She also enjoyed the woods of Georgia and the North Carolina Mountains, spending many vacations camping, sightseeing and later buying a second home in Franklin, North Carolina. On one summer vacation, she shared driving the family Winnebago motor home with Joel from Florida up the entire East Coast, all the way to Nova Scotia, Canada.
Family gathering with close friends were also a highlight. She often threw surprise birthday parties for Joel and hosted other parties for friends. Weekly fellowship dinners with close friends were especially a favorite time.
Anyone who knew Charlotte, knew she loved having her hair done every two weeks for many years. She would cancel other appointments rather than change a hair appointment. She was a classy dresser so her hair was equally important.
Joel and Charlotte raised five children. The oldest child, Anthony D. Mercer, predeceased her on August 27, 2017. She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Joel, and children: Michael J. Mercer (Sandy), Steve Mercer, Kathy Mercer Gray (Donald Gray Jr.) and Gregory E. Mercer (Lisa); grandchildren: Ashley Marie Shouppe (Anthony), Ashley Lynn Haynes (Cory), Kaylee Mercer, Cody Mercer (Samantha) and Alyssa Mercer, and great grandchildren: Jacob Shouppe, Easton Shouppe, Charlotte Haynes, Finley Haynes, Layla Mercer and Levi Mercer.
A funeral service will take place at First Baptist Church of Winter Haven on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 1:00pm followed by a burial at Auburndale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Charlotte's name to Good Shepherd Hospice House of Auburndale.
