Winter Haven- Daniel Sparks Gerber, age 89, of Winter Haven, FL passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Good Shepherd Hospice, Forsythe House due to cancer. A lifelong resident of Polk County, he was born May 17, 1922 in Brewster, FL the son of Clarence Gerber and Marie Sparks Gerber, and moved to Winter Haven at the age of two. He graduated from Winter Haven High and attended the University of Florida until joining the Army Air Force during WWII. After the war, he returned to Winter Haven to operate the family business, Gerber Dairy. He was a member of Winter Haven Christian Church and a devoted and loving husband and father.
Mr. Gerber was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marie Gerber. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julette (Hunter) Gerber of Winter Haven, daughters: Joy (Steve) Killingsworth, Jill Smith, and Joan (Glen)Terrell, grandchildren: Michelle (Brad) Chancey, Heather (Mark) Kingsley, Megan Terrell, and Sean Terrell, great grandchildren: Ellie and Grady Chancey, and Chase and Camden Kingsley, siblings: Robert Gerber, William (Jeannie) Gerber, Bert (Lynda) Gerber, and Betty Gerber.
Visitation is Friday, February 24, 2012 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven. Funeral services are Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:00 am at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be Monday, February 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Winter Haven Christian Church, Good Shepherd Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association, and the American Cancer Society.
