David Bruce Hurgeton, Jr., age 65, of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born July 23, 1959 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Joan (Ritter) and David B. Hurgeton, Sr.
In his childhood, you would find David skiing on the slopes of Ski Roundtop with his parents and sisters. When he was old enough, his parents gifted him a chemistry set, which led to an interest in chemical engineering. A proud Florida Gator, he ultimately graduated from the University of Florida with a Master’s in Environmental Engineering. He enjoyed playing racquetball and was once seeded in his league and division. While he worked in the environmental engineering field following his graduation from UF, he more recently enjoyed lending his computer expertise to those who needed it. In his spare time, he was an avid reader and an expert in crossword, Wordle, and Sudoku puzzles. David had a talent for being able to talk to anyone and everyone, was a tremendous lover of animals, and also enjoyed sharing his faith in Jesus Christ.
He was a great brother to his two sisters, Joellyn Collier and Janelle Swilley. He is also survived by his nieces: Kayla Hawkins and husband Carl, and Julia and Alyssa Swilley; his great-niece, Cecilia; numerous cousins; and by his furry companions, his cats, MiniMe, Lilly Belle, and Baby Belle. He was preceded in death by his canine companion, Shadow.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, FL.
