

Col. Ret. David Mitchell Southworth, 86, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service and a lifelong commitment to helping others.
Born on July 11, 1939, David lived a life marked by dedication to his country, his family, his faith, and his community. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Kalamazoo College, where he also excelled as an avid basketball player, setting a state record during his high school and collegiate athletic career.
David served in the United States Air Force for 30 years, retiring as a Colonel after an honorable military career spanning from 1962 to 1992. During his distinguished service, he received numerous military honors and was decorated during both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, David served as Vice President of Wackenhut Security Services for seven years. In 1999, he married the love of his life, Cynthia J. "Cindy" Southworth. Together, they devoted the next two decades to strengthening marriages as AACC Certified Relationship Coaches, as founders of Breakwater Coaching. David never truly believed in retirement. His passion for investing in people continued through mentoring couples, encouraging others, and faithfully serving in ministry.
A devoted member of Haven Worship Center in Winter Haven, Florida, David lived out his faith through service and compassion. His ministry touched countless lives, and he remained actively involved until his passing.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Marie Southworth; his sister, Janet Southworth; and his brother, Dale Southworth.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Cynthia J. Southworth; his stepsons, Joshua D. Knight and his wife, Vanessa, and Aaron J. Knight and his wife, Sondra; his stepdaughter, Katherine Knight Blake and her husband, Michael; and his cherished grandchildren, Sophie Williams, Jude Williams, David Knight, Wren Knight, Madelyne Knight, Asher Knight, Ansley Knight, Elliot Knight, Sorin Blake, Dorian Blake, Fenix Cook, and Chloe Knight.
David will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected military leader, mentor, and faithful servant of God. His wisdom, kindness, and steadfast commitment to helping others build stronger lives and relationships leave an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life for David will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 2:00 at Haven Chapel, 651 Carl Floyd Rd, Winter Haven, Florida. A gathering will follow after the service and all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haven Worship Center Helps Ministry in David's memory. His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
