

Donald was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent much of his career working for Bordo Citrus and Florida's Natural. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed working on small equipment, a hobby that reflected his love of fixing things and staying busy.
He attended Lake Shipp Baptist Church and found comfort and fellowship within his church community throughout the years.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Ann Spires; his parents, Nina Scarborough and Ross Spires; sister in law, Mary Spires; and his grandson, Chad Edwards Spires.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his daughter, Ruby Darlene Phares (Clay); his son, Derris Edward Spires (Sheila); his daughter, Dena Gail Claxton (Carl); his stepdaughter, Paula Kay Alderman (John); his stepson, Stephen Craig Thomas; his brother, Dalton Spires (Greta); his sister, Faye Self (Grady); and his brother Dennard Spires. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and friends.
Donald will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hardworking nature, and the many lives he touched throughout his years. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 West Central Ave, Winter Haven, FL 33880, US, on June 11, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, followed by a Funeral Service at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home on June 11, 2026, at 10:30 am.
A Graveside Service will take place at Lakeside Memorial Park 2450 US Highway 17 North, Winter Haven, FL 33881, US.
