It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Payne announce her peaceful passing on August 9, 2022. She was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was born to Frances and Anthony Knast in August 1928 in Camden, NJ, married her true love William “Bill” Payne (a Navy sailor who she met on a blind date) and had 4 children. Mrs. Payne (Frances) spent most of her life in Winter Haven, having moved to Florida in 1967. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Payne (Frances) and her family were members of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was active in the St. Matthew Women's Prayer and Meditation groups, volunteered at the Winter Haven Pregnancy Center, and loved spending time gardening, cooking, and spending time with cherished family and friends. She was the spiritual leader of her family, and she had an amazing sense of humor. Everyone loved her laugh. Mrs. Payne was primarily a wife, mother, and homemaker and volunteered much of her time to Catholic Charities throughout Winter Haven. Mrs. Payne is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years William “Bill” Payne, mother Frances Knast, father Anthony Knast, sister Alfreda Hartman, brother Anthony “Sonny” Knast, and brother-in-Law Victor Hartman. She is survived by her sons Richard Payne of Winter Haven, FL and Billy Payne (Lisa) of Satellite Beach, FL, her daughters Rosemarie Payne of St. Petersburg, FL and Barbara Miles (Mike) of Bradenton, FL, and her sister Margaret Arthur (Robert Sr.) of Tabernacle, NJ. Mrs. Payne is also survived by her niece Debra Arthur, nephews Tom Hartman and Dr. Robert Arthur, grandchildren Melissa Vogel (Richard), Austin Payne (Erin), Tyler Miles, Jennifer Miles, and great grandchildren Ricky Vogel, Leo Vogel, and Juniper Payne. A Funeral Mass is set for 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 18th at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1991 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven, 33884. The family will hold an open house following the service from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at 104 Holmes Place in Winter Haven. Interment will take place at 11:30 AM on Monday, August 22nd at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.See more See Less
