Winter Haven – Mrs. Gloria Maria Joye, age 80, of Winter Haven, FL passed away February 1, 2011 due to CVA. She was born August 21, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of the late Angelo Fortunato and Mary (Sorrentino) Battaglia. She moved to Winter Haven in 1951 from Philadelphia and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Besides being a home-maker, she was a retired registered nurse; Lecturer & Therapist in the field of Psychiatry and helped her husband with psychodrama and house calls.
She was a member of the Nursing Alumni Association, Philadelphia, PA; elected (2) terms City Commission – Belleair Shore, FL; Member of the Education Board – Ruth Eckerd Hall, FL, Mrs. Joye was chairman of the board of the Women’s Auxillary of the Osteopathic As-sociation, Patron of the Arts including Ruth Eckherd Hall. She was most gifted at decoration and entertainment. In 1948 Gloria was the 1st TV Hostess of an hourly show.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Joye was preceded in death by her husband Dr. J.B. Joye, Jr. and son Robin Joye. She is survived by her son Attorney Mark Carlton Joye of Houston, TX, daughter and writer, Mary Joye, Winter Haven, FL, sisters CVA Gilda Rorro-Baldassari; EdD. of Trenton, NJ and Victoria Seablom (Seth) of Seattle, WA.
Visitation is Sunday from 2-4pm at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven. Funeral ser-vices are Monday at 10 am at the funeral home followed with a reception. Burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
