May 15, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 27, 1942 to Marion and Cornelius
Sammon, Kevin moved to Rochester, New York, before he and his family gave up shoveling
snow and ice for the warmth of Florida in 1980. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years,
Alison, his brothers Frank (Cathy) and Robert (Eileen), his sons Michael (Colleen), Matthew
(Jennifer), and David (Cari), and his beloved grandchildren Mackenzie, Patrick, and Cassidy.
He is also survived by sister - in- law Barb, as well as many nephews and nieces
.
Kevin graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in cost engineering in the construction field.
Starting his career in Albany and later Rochester, he accepted an outstanding promotion in
Tampa with J. Allen Construction. He later worked with Greiner Engineering in Tampa, and
Boyken Construction in Orlando on numerous projects at Tampa International Airport, Orlando
International Airport, and many military bases across North America.
Kevin was a people person, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus like his father, an
active member in the Catholic church wherever he lived, and a proud supporter of the Boy
Scouts of America as he guided his three sons and many of his scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout as Scoutmaster of Troop 797 in Seffner. After relocating to Winter Haven in 1998, he continued mentoring scouts as a district commissioner. In recent years, he was an usher at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, a volunteer at the St. Matthew’s thrift shop, and an engineering consultant for is own company, Haven Consulting.
Kevin was a voracious reader of all subjects, an avid cook who loved to entertain family and
friends, and a world traveler as he and Alison planned long and adventurous vacations across
North America and his family’s homeland of Ireland. He loved nature, animals, and especially
his beloved and loyal canine companions Noah and Millie. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his
face than relaxing at home with his pets, family, and his grandchildren whom he was so very
proud of.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Kevin’s name to the Polk County Sheriff’s Animal
Control Division, or the Boy Scouts of America Lake Region Council.
And Kevin would want everyone to follow the scout slogan — do a good turn daily.
