Laura Dean Lawson

January 21, 1951March 9, 2020

Laura Dean Lawson, maiden name Gossick, was born in Fairfield, Iowa, and raised in Illinois. Laura was the middle child of three siblings and is survived by: her husband, Michael Lawson, their daughter Courtney Ann Lawson; as well as her mother, Shirley Gossick, and her two brothers, Charlie, and Mark Gossick. Laura was born on January 21st of 1951 and went home on March 9th 2020. Laura fought Lung Cancer bravely for over three months before finally succumbing to the illness at Bay Care Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Laura was a talented violist. She played in different music ensembles as well as taught others privately for over twenty-five years. The second half of her life she dedicated to raising guide dogs for, Southeastern Guide Dog School. She was devoted to helping those without sight to live full and rich lives. Laura and Michael raised eighteen guide dogs for the school. The last of which is Valor. The most famous of these pups is Rigby, who is now assisting Marcus Luttrell (The Lone Survivor). Laura served as an Area Coordinator for Southeastern Guide Dog School for the last fifteen years. During all of this, Laura still made time to volunteer at Friends of the Library bookstore.

A devoted wife and loving mother, Laura was also a woman of strong faith. In addition to being very active in multiple churches and utilizing her musical talents by performing bells for their congregations; Laura always opened up her and Michael’s home to friends and family every holiday to ensure celebration, solidarity, and friendship.

Laura will be truly missed by those who were part of her life and those she assisted in easing their life travels, in addition to her immediate family and friends.

There will be no funeral service but a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to be made to Southeastern Guide Dog School. Southeastern Guide Dog School 4210 77th street East, Palmetto, Fl. 34221
