Nekia Atawa Joyce Evans was granted her angel wings on December 5th 2018. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in so many ways throughout her life’s journey. Her memorable spirit will carry-on with us throughout eternity. She gave us all such hope and courage, reminded us of the preciousness of life and how we should always be kind and love one another. Nekia was known for her love of reading, dancing, and music. Born on September 23rd, 1975, in Winter Haven, FL to her parents Patricia Laverene Blake Smedley and Willie James Joyce. Nekia was raised in the home with her mother, who preceded her in death, and step-father Robert Grady Smedley of Winter Haven, FL.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Derek Evans of Fort Worth, TX, her son Najeh Lavon Johnson of Fort Worth, TX and daughter Ivy Patricia Evans of Fort Worth, TX, two step-sons Derek Evans Jr., and Amarran Evans and one grandchild, all of Jacksonville, FL, sisters and their spouses Ortancis Blake of Rialto, CA and Robyn (Que) Smedley-Horne of Winter Haven, FL as well as a hosts of friends, half-siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law.
The family will receive friends and family at a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hurst Chapel AME Church, 875 Ave O NE, Winter Haven, FL 33881 on December 22, 2018.
A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with a repast afterward
