Mr. Percy Nolan Hunt, known by most as Nolan, age 92, of Haines City, Florida, passed peacefully from this earth to his eternal home on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the George C. Forsythe Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, after suffering from years of debilitating dementia.
Nolan was born at home in Nigh, Pike County, Kentucky, the youngest of eleven children to parents Kerry Malcomb & Samantha Jane Bertrand Hunt. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army and proudly served just over 3 years, including 7 months in the Korean War and on the Enewetak Atoll.
After his discharge from the Army, at age 20, Nolan moved to Detroit, Michigan, where jobs were plentiful, and there he met Norma Jean Thacker, a Pike County, Kentucky girl who had been one year behind him in school back in Kentucky. The two married on October 17, 1953, and the couple was married for 61 years before her passing December 17, 2014. God blessed their union with three children: Donna, Dale, and Duane, who were raised in greater Detroit.
A hard worker, during his work career Nolan had a variety of factory and plant positions and many security guard jobs, including Goodyear Tire, Huck Manufacturing, and Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company (now Pfizer). He also served as a Union Rep and Committeeman for the United Auto Workers and the International Plant Guards Union.
Upon retirement in 1991, Nolan & Norma built a home and moved to a rural area outside Chiefland, Florida. They moved to Polk County, Florida in 2002, and remained in Polk for the balance of their years. Nolan & Norma were active and beloved members of CenterPoint Community Church, where their youngest son serves as lead pastor. Even after retirement to Florida Nolan continued to work as a security guard and a Walmart greeter.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Kerry and Samantha; his wife, Norma; all ten of his brothers and sisters (making him truly the last one standing), Chloris, Aimel, Bernie, Lorraine, Delmais, Dorothy, James, Lois, Amanda, and Norcie; and great-grandson, Noah.
