

Richard Francis of Lakeland, FL. Age 92, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025. He was born December 29, 1932 in Dorchester (Boston), Ma. Rick married his wife, of 58 years, Regina “Jeannie” Delores Kruit on July 11,1953 at the Cathedral Church in Nashville, TN. Rick is the last of the “Florida Street” Clougherty’s having been pre-deceased by his nine brothers and sisters (Frances, Helen, Mary Lorraine, Edward, James, Miles, Joseph, Robert, and Albert).
Rick was in the Air Force for 20 years attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. Rick and Jeannie lived in Turkey, Germany, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Nebraska before retiring to Lakeland, Florida. Rick loved sports and actively competed on various Air Force teams.
Once settled in Lakeland, Rick worked for the City of Lakeland as a meter reader and retired after many years of service. Rick was a member of Elk Lodge 1291, past member of American Legion Post #4,
and past member of VFW #2297. His love of sports continued as a lifelong passion. An avid golfer, Rick nurtured his game at the Cleveland Heights Golf Club, earning a reputation as a high performer among his peers. College football was perhaps his most passionate hobby. On occasion, or perhaps on more than a few occasions, Rick was known to place a wager or two. If he lost, you might hear his most emotionally charged phrase “Hot Damn”!
Rick is survived by his son Richard Clougherty of Niagara Falls, NY, his two grandchildren Stephen and Frank, three great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Thursday, February 27th at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:30 to 10:00 am with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 am. Rick will be laid to rest at 12:30 PM at Bushnell National Cemetery.
