Sally Jeanette Erd

January 23, 1942June 16, 2020

Sally Jeanette (Guyer) Erd, age 78, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s. Her kind and gentle spirit will never be forgotten. She is now at peace.

The daughter of Orville and Virginia (Reaux) Guyer, Sally was born on January 23, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. Sally grew up in Toledo and was a 1960 graduate of Devilbiss High School.

Sally met Larry Erd through their mutual love of sports cars and the two married in 1965. They had two children, Christina and Andrew. In addition to being a proud and busy wife and mother, Sally worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas for 36 years. In addition, Sally was involved in their printing business, Erd Specialty Graphics. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s, and later, St. Michael’s of the Hills, Episcopal churches. Sally was a voracious reader, and enjoyed gardening, home renovation and decorating projects as well. Larry and Sally were active in a number of car clubs which remained an important part of their lives. She often traveled with her family to natural and historical sites of interest. Sally was involved in the Daughters of the American Revolution in both Toledo & Lake Wales, Florida.

In 1994, Sally and Larry began RV travel around the country. In 2008 Sally and Larry had a lovely home built in Lake Wales, Florida. They were active in a number of RV groups and enjoyed traveling to rallies, events and shows. They built a wonderful community of good friends and Sally enjoyed bowling and lunching with the ladies. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales.

Sally graciously shared her cheerful, vivacious and generous spirit with so many. She will be greatly missed by Larry, her loving husband of 55 years, daughter Christina, son Andrew, grandchildren Josh, Alex, Hadley and Jack, siblings, Jacquie Ferrington (deceased), Brian Guyer and Evelyn Gawrych, and extended family and friends. The family wants to thank the staff of Family Extended Care Services (Hawthorne Inn) and Good Shepherd Hospice for their excellent care of Sally.

To the Erd Family - I worked with Sally at Owens Corning. She was a very kind and giving person. We became good friends and after her retirement we would meet for dinner to solve the world problems. She will be missed by her friends in Toledo, Ohio. God has her safe in his care.

We are so sorry for the loss of Aunt Sally. I was fortunate enough to know her through my husband, her nephew. Even though she had never me me she was so sweet and gracious to have a wedding shower for me. She greeted me with open arms and made that day so special. We will always remember her as a loving, caring and giving person. She will be greatly missed. We are praying for peace and comfort for you all during this difficult time.

All our love,

It was with much sadness to have received a note from Larry that Sally had passed away. It was a very long struggle for Sally but also for Larry. He watched his wife of many years slip away from him as the terrible Alzheimer's Disease took its toll. I can truly sympathize with Larry's status now as I too lost my wife Donise to Alzheimer's a little more than 4 years ago. Larry and I would talk to each other occasionally about the disease and its progression and effects. Wish I could have been more supportive. Sally was a wonderful person whom my wife and I knew through our Morgan car club gatherings. I have fond memories of getting together with them during most of our clubs social events and in particular at a meet they hosted at their home in Toledo years ago. Sally was a warm and fun loving person who was not put off by a bunch of guys standing around staring at an engine compartment or talking cars. She enjoyed the car scene with the best of us.
Sally you will be fondly remembered and missed!
