It is with great sadness that the family of Timmy Dale Scarbrough (Tim) announces his passing after an extended illness. Tim entered the Kingdom of Heaven to meet his Savior and Lord on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 62.
Tim began his lifelong passion for magic at the age of seven when a cousin taught him several magic tricks learned while serving in Vietnam. What began as childhood fascination grew into a career and calling that brought joy and laughter to countless people throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Tim pursued his desire to become a law enforcement officer. He proudly served with both the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Winter Haven Police Department. During his time with the Winter Haven Police Department, he developed a deep compassion for the homeless population and became known among fellow officers for his dedication to serving and supporting those experiencing homelessness. Known to many as Officer Tim, he earned respect from both the community and his colleagues.
Tim later became a D.A.R.E. Officer, where he combined his talents as a magician with his commitment to helping young people. Through magic tricks and demonstrations, he taught students the importance of making good choices and staying away from drugs. Years later, former students would still recognize him in public and fondly refer to him as “Officer Tim.”
Eventually, Tim followed his first passion and became a full-time entertainer. Through his magic shows, he brought laughter and fun to audiences of all ages. Later, he joined his wife in teaching concealed firearms and firearm safety classes, continuing his lifelong dedication to education and service. Tim also shared his creativity and experiences through writing, authoring several books, including coloring books, a memoir, a children’s book, and a book about six brothers—three bank robbers and three police officers.
Tim was a proud member of the Lake Wales High School Class of 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Delois Maebell Scarbrough; his brother, Roger Scarbrough; his father-in-law, Gene Bass; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Bass.
Tim will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Janet, with whom he shared 40 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories, including the many beloved dogs that were part of their family throughout the years. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary, Ron, and Carl Scarbrough of Tennessee; nephews Alan, Chris, Curtis, and Ryan; and nieces Jessica and Erin.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 10:30 am. Service will be held at Christ Community Church, 1895 Overlook Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33884. Pastors Louie Mabrey, Roger Quarles, and Chris Weatherby will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Tim’s name to a dog rescue of your choice.
