He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in their EAP employee assistance program for 20 years, having recently retired.
He was born in Ridley Park, Delaware Co, Pennsylvania, in 1946 to Daniel L and Dorothy Ann Spires.
Dan graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia in 1965, then to college at Old Dominion University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He then followed his father into the Navy, serving four years. Continuing his education in Richmond, Virginia, he received a master’s degree in social counseling from Old dominion University.
He lived in the New York City area, where he worked as a counselor for various firms and in private practice for several years. Later, he moved to Macon, Georgia where he started working for the US Postal Service, then transferred to Orlando.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Dorothy Spires. Left to cherish his memory are two sisters: Donna Jean (Spires) George, of Columbus, Ohio, her husband David and four children, David George Jr, Diane (George) McLemore, Deborah George, and Richard George; and Deborah Lynn (Spires) Dennis, of Orlando, Florida, her husband William Dennis and daughter Isabelle Dennis.
Dan loved many things: his many Weimaraner dogs, movies, motorcycles, art of all kinds, and last but not least, food and wine. We called him “Frasier,” “Mr. Foody” and “DogMan.” He also was very dedicated to helping others in his job as a therapist.
